Friday MLS: Timbers dispatch lowly Fire

Portland Timbers 1-0 Chicago Fire
The Timbers ended their four game winless streak with a somewhat drab win over Chicago. The one goal came from Fanendo Adi being in the right place at the right time in the 48th minute. Will Johnson carried the all in from the right flank before taking a shot that was easily stopped by Sean Johnson. The rebound, however, was spilled right into Adi's oncoming foot for the tap in goal. The rest of the match was highlighted by Chicago failing to really do anything with their superior possession and Portland looking ugly on their counter attacks. Newcomer Lucas Melano, in particular, probably should have had a pair of second half goals, but his shooting went awry.

The Timbers will take their 1-0 win, though. It keeps them in the playoffs and even boosts them up to fourth place heading into today's matches. As for the Fire, they are still at the bottom of the East and heading just about nowhere.
