Midweek MLS Madness: Colorado spoils Kansas City's playoff party

Sporting Kansas City 0-2 Colorado Rapids
Colorado spoils Kansas City's opportunity to clinch the playoffs with a pair of late goals. Dillon Powers scored in the 78th minute to give the Rapids the lead. They took a little bit if a blow in the 84th minute when Sam Cronin was shown his second yellow card for dissent and was sent off. Sporting was unable to capitalize on the man advantage any, in fact, stumbled once more. Marcelo Sarvas buried one in the 86th to guarantee Colorado a trio of points.

As I mentioned earlier, Kansas City could have clinched the playoffs with a win and now their playoff fate will be decided on Sunday. Their scenario is pretty simple. Just beat the Galaxy at home and they're in. Dhould they fail, a San Jose defeat to Dallas would do the trick.

They other two Western teams with uncertain playoff futures are arch rivals Portland and Seattle. The Timbers need at least a point at home over the Rapids to get in. Seattle needs to beat Real Salt Lake at home to get in. Both are through if San Jose falls, regardless of their results.

Decision Day, as the league is branding it, should be fun in the Western Conference. Three playoff spots are up for grabs in the 7:00 slate of matches. The Supporters Shield is also at stake as the Red Bulls can win to claim it for themselves. Should the lose, Dallas can jump them with a win.
