Sunday MLS: Dallas and LA clinch playoff spots, Rapids eliminated

FC Dallas 4-1 Houston Dynamo
Dallas becomes the first Western Conference team to clinch their playoff spot while delivering a real blow got the Dynamo and their playoff chances. They weren't into the Texas Derby with a chance to pull even with Portland ave San Jose for the final East playoff spot and instead get rocked on the road. Mauro Diaz opened the scoring for Dallas in the 25th with a confident shot from the spot. Houston would get that one back with a one-hopper from distance off the not of Ricardo Clark. Two goals from David Texeira and Kellyn Acosta in the 51st and 53rd respectively gave the home team all three points to lift them into second behind the Galaxy. Oh, and Texeira added a goal in stoppage time for the sole purpose of forcing me to come back to this recap and write about it.

Colorado Rapids 1-2 Real Salt Lake
In the grand scheme, this one probably will not mean much. Colorado is destined to finish in last place and RSL will probably see their playoff hunt end unsuccessfully. Kevin Doyle got Colorado's only goal in the 16th minute, only to see Joao Plata and Luke Mulholland get Salt Lake in front before halftime. The loss sees the Rapids officially eliminated from post season contention. Salt Lake, meanwhile, is above them in second to last place, but still has a prayer at the playoffs. They are on 41 points with three matches left. That puts them three points back of the Quakes and Timbers for sixth place.

Seattle Sounders 1-1 LA Galaxy
Robbie Keane got the Galaxy going in the 36th minute and it looked to be enough for quite some time. Chad Barrett didn't get Seattle their equalizer until the third minute of second half stoppage time. The shared points clinch a playoff spot for the Galaxy and keep Seattle in great shape to clinch one of their own soon.
