Hooligan's Wake Up: Costa out with bruised shin, NYC add new left back

The last thing Chelsea needs is an injury issue, but they might have one with Diego Costa. New York City also added a new left back. The Jordan Morris saga could be coming to a close soon. Plus, there was lots of action on the pitch to keep us plenty entertained.

Premier League
Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United
(Rooney 78')

Stoke City 0-0 Arsenal

Full Premier League Recap

La Liga
Valencia 2-2 Rayo Vallecano
(Negredo 55', Alcacer 88')-(Jozabed 15', Llorente 69')

Real Madrid 5-1 Sporting Gijon
(Bale 7', Ronaldo 9', 18', Benzema 12', 41')-(Lopez 62')

Getafe 2-1 Espanyol
(Leon 29', Sarabia 37')-(Perez 26')

Las Palmas 0-3 Atletico Madrid
(Luis 17', Griezmann 68', 89')

Barcelona 6-0 Athletic Bilbao
(Messi PK 7', Neymar 31', Suarez 47', 68', 82', Rakitic 62')

The giants of La Liga both took care of business yesterday, but they had a couple set backs. Lionel Messi was reported to have a small strain after Barca's 6-0 hammering of Athletic Bilbao. Gareth Bale didn't make it through the Real Madrid win over Sporting Gijon. He left with a hamstring injury in the second half. Atletico also did their job, and didn't lose anyone to injury. They still hold on to first place over Barcelona, who have a game in hand over the leaders.

Serie A
Genoa 4-0 Palermo
(Suse 3', Pavoletti 71', 88', Rincon 75')

AS Roma 1-1 Hellas Verona
(Nainggolan 41')-(Pazzini PK 61')

Bologna 2-2 Lazio
(Giaccherini 2', Destro 18')-(Candreva PK 71', Lulic 76')

Carpi 2-1 Sampdoria
(Lollo 27', Mbakogu PK 55')-(Correa 33')

Chievo Verona 1-1 Empoli
(Paloschi 7')-(Tonelli 47')

Udinese 0-4 Juventus
(Dybala 15', PK 26', Khedira 18', Sandro 42')

AC Milan 2-0 Fiorentina
(Bacca 4', Boateng 88')

It's old news by now, but Juventus won again. That makes ten straight in the league for The Old Lady. They are now up to second in the table. Roma and Fiorentina had a bit of a set back in their quest for the top three. Roma dropped points at home to winless Hellas Verona and Fiorentina, who could have jumped to third with a win, lost to AC Milan.

Ligue 1
Lorient 0-2 AS Monaco
(Lemar 53', Moutinho 57')

Caen 1-3 Olympique Marseille
(Ronny 67')-(Batshuayi 12', Nkoudou 60', Sarr 83')

St. Etienne 1-0 Olympique Lyonnais
(Toft 76')

St. Etienne's win over Lyon puts them within striking distance of Europe. They are two points back of a Champions League place and only a point out of Europa. Monaco's win keeps them in second place as what I call France's "other champions" since we all know PSG isn't going to relinquish their 21 point lead.

European League Tables

Liga MX
Pumas UNAM 3-2 Toluca
(Sosa 39', 39', Herrera Aguirre 77')-(Cueva 51', Triverio 83')

Puebla 1-3 Monterrey
(Bermudez 16')-(Funes 45+1', Sanchez 70', 87')

Monterrey overcame an early deficit to join Leon as the only to Liga MX clubs to win their first two matches of this Clausura season. Of course, as long as you hit the top eight in Mexico you are in the hunt for the trophy, so let's not pay too much attention to the standings after only tow matches.

North American League Tables

Brendan Rodgers was let go from his post at Liverpool in Octobsr and has turned down several offers to manage since then. He will rerturn to coaching at some point, and it might even be overseas, meaning outside of Europe. could this be a precursor to a Brendan Rodgers to MLS crusade?

Diego Costa has been diagnosed with a bone bruise on his shin. He was injured during Saturday's match with Everton and was taken to the hospital for scans. It's still unclear how long he will be out, so Chelsea may still want to buy themselves a striker.

I mentioned Messi'a minor strain earlier. He was subbed off oat halftime of the Barcelona win, but still could be fit in time for the midweek cup tie against that same Bilbao club. On the negative side of the injury news, Jordi Alba will be out for about ten days with a hamstring injury of his own. Barcelona  are a point back of Atletico Madrid for the top spot in La Liga.

Everton look to be selling Steven Naismith. The Scottish international is on his way to Norwich for £8 million pending a medical today. Roberto Martinez needs the money to buy other players and Naismith was considered expendable. The forward has made only four league starts this year thanks to the emergence of players like Gerard Deulofeu and Romelu Lukaku.

USMNT midfielder Jordan Morris has been on trial with Werder Bremen of the Bundesliga for the past couple weeks. It's come out that the German club expects to offer him a contract, and that he might be good enough to contribute to the team right away. Seattle has already offered him the richest homegrown contract in MLS history, but it's possible that Bremen has offered him more, both in terms of riches and quality of training. I am in favor of Morris departing for Germany. With all due respect to MLS and it's desire for high quality players, Morris will become a better player overall with Bundesliga level coaching.

New York City have brought on a new defender. They have signed Costa Rican international left back Rondald Matarrita from Alajuelense in Costa Rica. He has made a couple appearances with the Costa Rican national team in World Cup Qualifiers.
