Headlines
FIFA has finalized it's list of five candidates for their presidential election, which takes place in one month's time. Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa, Gianni Infantino, Tokyo Sexwale and Jerome Champagne will be FIFA President at the end of February.
Champagne spoke out about the 2022 World Cup and the investigation into the likely corrupt methods Qatar used to earn hosting privileges for the event. He says that if the Arab nation is proven to be guilty and removed as hosts, the United States, as second place finishers in the vote, should be where the tournament is played. There are plenty of non-FIFA related issues that very well should lead to Qatar not being allowed to host, so hopefully the new regime gets their acts together and takes it away from them, whether the USA is plan B or not.

Fox Sports has been awarded the television rights for the much anticipated Copa America tournament to be held in the United States this summer. It was long speculated that this would be the case, but it's now finally official. The prices was delayed, ave even has to start over, thanks to the FIFA arrests and subsequent investigation that almost led to the event being moved from the USA.

Chelsea and West Brom had a little bit of argy bargy in their 2-2 draw back on January 13 (so surprise Diego Costa was at the center of it). As a result, both clubs have been fined for their actions. Chelsea is out  £65,000 while West Brom was docked only £35,000. Nobody was sent off back on matchday, and no players have been directly punished either.

After Bruce Arena ranted last week about MLS not focussing enough on American players, another aging European has joined LA Galaxy. This time it's 32-year old Belgian defender Jelle Van Damme coming over from Standard Liege. The left back scored 22 times in more than 200 appearances for Standard, and hopes to help fill in the void left by the departed Omar Gonzalez.

Crystal Palace have made a move for a free agent. Former Arsenal, Manchester City, and Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor will join the South London club for the remainder of the season. He is there to provide depth in attack for a Palace team that is chasing a spot in the Europe League for next year.

Finally, USWNT star forward Sydney Leroux will not be playing in this summer's Olympic Games, nor for the qualifying tournament next month. However, it is for an entirely positive reason as she and her husband, Sporting Kansas City forward Dom Dwyer, have announced they are expecting their first child. Congratulations to the happy couple and I wish them all the best going forward. And I look forward to the kid becoming as US National Team prospect in 18 years or so.
