Hooligan's Wake Up: Morris returns to USA

Amid a flurry of cup matches in Europe, Jordan Morris is coming home to the USA from his training stint in Germany. Sad news, if you ask me. Bruce Arena also spoke up about MLS and their rapid expansion plans.

Yesterday's Scores
FA Cup- Third Round Replays
Aston Villa 2-0 Wycombe Wanderers
(Clark 75', Gueye 90')

Bradford City 0-0 Bury (2-4 on penalties)

Bristol City 0-1 West Bromwich Albion
(Rondon 52')

MK Dons 3-0 Northampton Town
(Reeves PK 53', Murphy 61', Church PK 89')

Portsmouth 2-1 Ipswich Town
(Roberts PK 32', Bolat 37')-(Maitland-Niles 60')

Yeovil Town 1-1 Carlisle United (4-5 on penalties)
(Compton 31')-(Sweeney 77')

Bolton Wanderers 3-2 Eastleigh
(Madine 39', Moxey 43', Pratley 59')-(Partington 11', Mohamed 45+2')

Reading 5-2 Huddersfield Town
(Piazon 29', Vydra 57', 61', 90', Alex 90+3')-(Paterson 8', Smyth 15')

There were no giant slayings in the third round replays. Bristol City probably should have taken out West Brom, but their finishing left a lot to be desired in their 1-0 loss.

Coupe de France- Round of 32
GFC Ajaccio 3-0 Guingamp
(Boutaib 5', 21', 48')

Stade Rennes 1-3 Bourg-Peronnas
(Moreira 21')-(Begue 48', Boussaha 81', Sane PK 90+2')

Angers 1-2 Bordeaux
(Ketkeophomphone 69')-(Jussie 45+1', Crivelli 58')

Bastia 1-2 Sochaux
(Kamano 36')-(Teikeu 27', Caceres 90+2')

US Sarre-Union 1-0 Niort
(Schermann 90')

Paris-St. Germain 2-1 Toulouse
Luiz 54', Ibrahimovic PK 89')-(Moubandje 11')

What the FA Cup lacked in upper division sides falling, we got in France. Stade Rennes fell to second division Bourg-Peronnas in emphatic fashion. Ligue 2's Sochaux also took down Bastia, who are currently 15th in the top division. That was really the only chance we got, since the rest of Ligue 1's participants were playing each other.

Coppa Italia- Quarterfinals

Napoli 0-2 Inter Milan
Jovetic 74', Ljajic 90+2')

Headlines
Jordan Morris has chosen to turn down the contract offer from Werder Bremen and will head home to Seattle and sign the richest homegrown contract in MLS history with the Seattle Sounders. I don't like it. I think he is missing out on a great chance to start his career in one of Europe's elite leagues. But here are my full thoughts on the matter.

Bruce Arena also had some interesting comments about MLS and its expansion policy. He says the league needs to slow down its expansion plans before it outgrows itself and they should focus more on domestic players rather than internationals. Kind of a strange thing for him to say, seeing as how he is probably the biggest culprit of bringing old Euros to the States. But he is right that MLS might be growing too fast. The dawn of the 2017 season will mean that MLS will be the largest top flight league in the world, something I don't think it's level of talent is ready to handle.

Nacho Monreal has improved remarkably as a left back for Arsenal since he first joined them in 2013. The Spaniard has penned a new deal that will keep him at The Emirates long term. How long was not disclosed.

The draw for the much anticipated Copa America 2016 tournament hosted by the United States will be held on February 21 in New York City. The USA, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina are the four seeded nations for the event. They will be joined by the rest of South America, as well as Jamaica, Costa Rica, Haiti, and Panama in the 16 team competition.

Gareth Bale, ho scored and left early with an injured calf over the weekend, has learned that he will have to miss about three weeks with a calf strain. He is targeting a return to action for the UEFA Champions League first leg match against AS Roma on February 17.

Jermaine Jones is in a sticky situation. He is facing a six game ban for his violent outburst after New England's playoff loss to DC United that would take effect with whichever club he signs for, bw it in MLS or overseas. He is out of contract right now, but is willing to take a pay cut to stay with the Revolution

The third and fourth rounds of the MLS Superdraft were yesterday. If you thought that very few of the guys taken on the first day would have any impact, get ready for these guys to never really show up at all.
