West Ham United 1-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers
(Jelavic 85')

Manchester United 1-0 Sheffield United
(Rooney PK 90+3')

It was a fairly good day for the Premier League sides involved. The only ones to lose were Sunderland, Newcastle, and Southampton, who were all up agaisnt fellow top division clubs. Manchester United was rather uninspiring (some may even say boring) against Sheffield. They needed a stoppage time penalty in order to avoid an away replay. Aston Villa can't even beat a League Two side as they drew with fourth division Wycombe Wanderers. The biggest success story of the day belongs to non-league Eastleigh, who forced a replay with Championship club Bolton.

La Liga
Barcelona 4-0 Granada
(Messi 8', 14', 58', Neymar 83')

Sevilla 2-0 Athletic Bilbao
(Gameiro 24', 59')

Getafe 1-0 Real Betis
(Vazquez 57')

Real Madrid 5-0 Deportivo la Coruna
(Benzema 15' 90+1', Bale 22', 49', 63')

Levante 2-1 Rayo Vallecano
(Deyverson 72', Morales 81')-(Pablo 83')

Lionel Messi's first hat trick of the year allows Barcelona back into first place in Spain, at least until Atletico plays tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Zinadine Zidane era at Real Madrid got off to a bangin' start, especially if you're Gareth Bale. The Welshman bagged a hat trick in his first match since Rafa Benitez was kicked to the curb.

Serie A
Carpi 2-1 Udinese
(Pasciuti 26', Lollo 70')

Fiorentina 1-3 Lazio
(Roncaglia 90+3')-(Balde Diao 45+1', Milinkovic-Savic 90+2', Anderson 90+6')

AS Roma 1-1 AC Milan
(Rudiger 4')-(Kucka 50')

Fiorentina could have gone to the to of the league with a win, but instead they could only muster up a late stoppage time consolation goal to remain in second.

Ligue 1
Lyon 4-1 Troyes
(Lacazette 18', Ghezzal 72', Ferri 81', Beauvue 90+2')-(Camus 67')

Angers 2-0 Caen
(Capelle 41', Ketkeophomphone 74')

AS Monaco 2-2 GFC Ajaccio
(Fabinho 51', Carvalho 73')-(Boutaib 8', Tshibumbu 31')

Montpellier 0-1 Bordeaux
(Diabate 16')

Stade de Reims 1-3 Toulouse
(Devaux 12')-(Ben Yedder 51', 66', 90')

Stade Rennes 2-2 Lorient
(Dembele 35', Boga 41')-(Diagne OG 4', Waris 22')

Angers jumps into second place with their win and the Monaco draw. This is a big jump. Second in France bypasses Champions League qualifying and heads straight into group play. They do this at the expense of Caen, who is now three points back of third place Monaco.
