Headlines
Yet another Chinese club has paid big money for a great European based player. Guangzhou Evergrande have paid the outrageous sum of €42 million for backup Atletico Madrid striker Jackson Martinez. That's a €7 million profit for what Atletico paid for him over the summer. The Colombian international has scored twice in 15 appearances (seven as a sub) during his brief stint in La Liga. HE did score twice in a pair of World Cup starts for Colombia, however.

It was quite a magnificent day for Jamie Vardy. He scored a goal of the year candidate on his way to a brace against Liverpool, and before that he made a big step towards a hefty raise with Leicester City. There have been many a rumor that one of England's massive clubs would swoop in and offer Leicester a windfall of cash to take Vardy away, but the extension he will sign will keep him at King Power Stadium until 2022 and potentially double his salary.

Portland have sold bench midfielder George Fochive to Danish side Viborg FF. Fochive was a rarely used defensive midfielder who is being displaced by the return of Ben Zemanski from injury that kept him out for all of 2015. The Timbers' holding midfield role is a very crowded place. Diego Chara is the main started, but Zemanski, Jack Jewsbury and Nick Besler all occupy the role. That leaves little room for Fochive with the defending champions.

What's with Barcelona players and tax fraud? Lionel Messi has long been under investigation for defrauding Spanish taxes, and now Neymar is being examined for scamming taxes back in Brazil. The crazy part is, the tomfoolery dates back to 2006, when the superstar was all of 14 years old. Neymar maintains his innocence, although no formal charges have been pressed, ret.
