Headlines
It was kind of a slow news day as we approach the return of MLS teams to competition in the CONCACAF Champions League, the next slate of UEFA Champions League matches, and, probably more important than both of those, the FIFA presidential election on Friday.

AFC president Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa is the presumed favorite, He currently has the backing of multiple confederations, including CONCACAF and the CAF. He is running against Tokyo Sexwale, Jerome Champagne, Jordanian Prince Ali, and Gianni Infantino.

The election is important, but how important won't be determined until the winner takes office and has time to implement some form of change. FIFA has a lot of things wrong with it. There are shady figures everywhere, including some of the election field. Sexwale, in particular has been linked to corruption before and is not against striking some form of deal to secure some votes on Friday. In my mind, the scum is so embedded in FIFA that I doubt any of these men have the power to truly right the ship.

That said, we cannot ignore this election. Whoever comes out in front has the enormous task of restoring some faith in how the world's game is governed. Regardless of how incapable anyone is of that job, it's a huge moment that requires our attention.
