US Soccer had introduced its first new crest on 20 years. It's a simpler design. It gets rid of the flying soccer ball and sticks with a simple red and white stripes design with "USA" above it. it's classy, simple, and much better than the leaked potential road jersey from last week.

Real Madrid's season has fallen well short of its title aspirations, and now one of their better players is going to miss some time. Karim Benzema will be out for the second leg of the Champions League against Roma next week and for up to a month after thanks to a right leg injury. He came off at halftime in last weekend's 1-0 Madrid Derby loss. Benzema is second in goals on the team with 19 on the La Liga season.

Last week there was a U-19 Champions League match between Chelsea and Valencia. The match went to penalties, which Chelsea won 5-4 The lone miss on the shootout was the result of referee error. The ball from Valencia shooter Alberto Gil crossed the line, but hit a piece of the goal and rocketed back out as if it hit the post. The referee denied the goal and refused to consult the television replay. Valencia's appeal of the situation has been denied and Chelsea moves on to play either Lyon or Ajax in the next round. I feel this is mostly due to logistics. Would Valencia have really flown their entire U-19 squad back to London just to replay a penalty shootout that could very well have been lost anyway? What other course of action could have been taken?
