Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has been handed a three match ban from La Liga over a second ball that was thrown onto the pitch from his technical area during last weekend's match against Malaga. Although he wasn't the one who tossed the ball into play, the rules state that, since it isn't known who threw it, he is responsible for the action. Atletico are level on points with Barcelona for the top spot in Spain and have three matches left in the season. So Simeone is done for the year as far as league matches are concerned.

In the latest fallout from yesterday's Hillsborough verdict, the South Yorkshire police chief David Crompton has been suspended. Yesterday's ruling confirmed that poor police work was the cause of the 96 deaths during the 1989 FA Cup Semi-Final. He had only been on the job for four years and was going to retire in November, but apparently there is an eroding trust in his police force and the rendering of this decision was only the latest reason for this action.

Don Garber was in Detroit yesterday to discuss MLS expansion in the city with Tom Gores and Dan Gilbert. While nothing at all concrete was laid down, the group did reveal a plan for a stadium that would be built on the land of an uncompleted county jail. While that location is apparently key to the implementation of the plan, the county has been vocal about not wanting to abandon the project or give up the land to anyone, even a billionaire investor. Garber says that the stadium plan coming to fruition will be critical in whether or not Detroit is granted a team.

There was casual mention of Detroit City FC and Michigan Bucks during the press conference. However, no representatives from either club were present at the event. Garber says that City and the Bucks have done well to grow soccer in the area and he wants to include the existing fan base of the clubs, but nobody has reached out yet.
