It Happened in England: Villa officially relegated

Norwich City 0-3 Sunderland
The relegation battle took clever stage this morning as Norwich was trying to further sink Sunderland to their fate down below. Norwich were the better team through the first half until Andre Wisdom gave away a 40th minute penalty. Sunderland's Fabio Borini buried the attempt and the visitors had a 1-0 half time lead. They extended their lead in the 53rd minute with a turnover in midfield capped off be a sliding finish from Jermain Defoe. Norwich were in control for the rest of the match, but great saves and clearances off the line were plenty to keep them of the score sheet. Sunderland added an insurance goal from Duncan Watmore in stoppage time to seal a huge result in their pursuit of safety. They are only a point away from Norwich in 17th. It also kept Aston Villa alive for a couple more hours.

Everton 1-1 Southampton
You can tell we are reaching the end of the season when you see this match and immediately think, who cares? Neither if these sides are fighting for Europe. They aren't threatened with relegation. Unless you're an Everton or Southampton fan, you have zero reason to tune into this match. Anyway, Everton took the lead in the 68th minute after Ramiro Funes Mori scored for them. Sadio Mane provided the equalizer eight minutes later to ensure the shared points.

Manchester United 1-0 Aston Villa
Aston Villa weren't quite going down yet, but dropped points against Manchester United, who needed a win to keep pace in their Champions League pursuit, would do the trick. United were on the front for rightMarcus Rashford began to send the Villains spiraling towards their fate with a 40th minute goal. The sad thing for United was that they couldn't score any more despite dominating the game. It's pretty sad when you only beat Villa 1-0 at home. Regardless, Aston Villa, for the first time in the Premier League era, are officially relegated to the Championship with this loss.

Newcastle 3-0 Swansea City
Newcastle were hoping to get something from this after the Norwich result with the hope of avoiding the drop. They have themselves a halftime lead with a goal from Jamaal Lascelles in the 40th minute. Newcastle would get two huge goals late in this one to seal the result. Moussa Sissoko doubled the lead in the 82nd and Andros Townsend made it three in the 89th. This is a huge result for Newcastle, who are still probably going down anyway. They are only three back of Norwich now.

West Bromwich Albion 0-1 Watford
In this match featuring two teams with little to play for, Watford went up first in the 27th minute thanks to Ben Watson. That would sum up the scoring. Watford will take the trio of points in to 12th place.

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City
Fresh off their triumph in the Champions League, Manchester City were in the mood to head to Stamford Bridge to improve upon their European qualifications for next season. It was a pretty even first half as far as shots acc possession went. Manchester a City stood out slightly more though. They had the half time advantage through Sergio Aguero's 33rd minute low shot from outside the penalty area. It snuck inside the far post to give City a 1-0 lead. As Manchester City began to pull away in the second half, his brace came on a 54th minute counter attack that spring from a Chelsea turnover in their attaching half. If it wasn't over yet, it was when Thibaut Courtois was sent off and given a penalty in the 78th minute for tripping Fernandinho a breakaway. The subsequent penalty gave Aguero his hat trick and a big three points in City's quest for the Champions League.
