The big news of the day was Jamie Vardy ending Arsenal's pursuit of him by signing an extension at Leicester City. Arsene Wenger hinted at this a few days ago, but, even though it was thought no decision would be made until England's inevitable death at Euros, Vardy made it official yesterday. This is a hit to Arsenal, who are looking to sign a proven striker over the summer, but not a fatal one. They have other targets on their radar, but seeing Wenger continuously fail to land his primary transfer targets is an all too familiar narrative at Emirates Stadium.
There were whispers going around Mexico that manager Juan Carlos Osorio would be fired after Saturday night's 7-0 thrashing at the hands of Chile, even though that was his first loss at the helm. However, Mexico announced today that Osorio would remain in charge. This is good news for Mexico, as firing their manager for his first loss in 23 matches would have been overly harsh.
FC Dallas have sold 18 year old winger Alex Zendejas to Chicas de Guadalajara in Mexico. He played eight matches, including two starts, at the MLS level last season and was a key member of the USA's squad at the U-17 World Cup. FC Dallas and the league will make a combined $500,000 off the homegrown player.
This has been known for a while, but Spurs have made their £11 million signing of Victor Wanyama official today.
