Friday MLS: Urruti bike gives Dallas win, bigger Shield lead

Orlando City 0-0 Houston Dynamo
Orlando City was playing its first match ever, at any level, without Adrian Heath at the helm. Strangely, it was also the first match that his son, Harrison Heath, would start this season. Orlando was mostly in control of the ball for this match, although they never really did much with it. Houston certainly did mode with their limited chances, particularly as the match wore down. Although nothing paid off, they did hit a post in the 88th minute. In the end, it was a mostly dull scoreless draw. The point does put Orlando City into a playoff spot for at least a day.

San Jose Earthquakes 0-1 FC Dallas
After a somewhat chippy. but scoreless first half, Dallas got on the board thanks to an insane 51st minute bicycle kick from Maxi Urruti. Neither team had generated much offense before that. They only took four shots each before the wondergoal. The lack of potency in attack continued after Dallas took the lead, too, although the Quakes became more desperate in the final minutes. It didn't get them anywhere, though, and Dallas held on for the victory.

The win means Dallas extends their Supporters Shield lead to four points over Colorado. The Rapds have three extra matches still to play. so expect that lead to shrink as early as tomorrow. The Quakes miss a chance to leap into a temporary playoff position. They remain in eighth, two points back of the red line.
