One day after firing their only manager in MLS club history, Seattle Sounders have signed Uruguayan Nicolas Lodeiro as a designated player. The midfielder arrives from Boca Juniors after having scored six times in 30 matches. He also was a regular feature in Uruguay's disappointing Copa America Centenario run over the summer.

Portland Timbers wasted little time filling the hole left by Nat Borchers injury. Former Newcastle defender Steven Taylor is set to join the club. The 30-year-old defender has no spot in Rafa Benitez's Newcastle side, thus allowing the Timbers to swoop in and take him. His injury history is a little concerning, but Portland will take any help they can get on defense right now.
