Swansea have sold off another crucial piece to their ambitions. Captain Ashley Williams has left the Welsh club for Everton, where he has signed a three year deal. WIlliams had been with Swansea since 2008 and helped them become the first Welsh side in the Premier League. Everton paid the modest sum of £9 million for him, which should feel like chump change after the John Stones sale, who Williams will replace.

Arsenal have made a late move for a defender as they aim to solve their injury issues. Valencia's Shkodran Mustafi has agreed to terms with the Gunners, who still need to negotiate a transfer fee. They are aiming to pay about £20 million for him, but it will likely cost more. Arsenal will start the season without three senior team defenders. Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista are hurt while Laurent Koscielny is still recovering from his strenuous workload with France during Euro's. Calum Chambers, who is more of a full back, is the only possible central defender on the senior roster.
