Sunday Premier League: Boro sinks Sunderland, West Ham gets win in London Stadium opener

Sunderland 1-2 Middlesbrough
Boro was looking for their first win in their return to the Premier League, and they gave themselves quite a shot at it with their strong first half. Two goals from Christian Stuani in the opening 45 minutes put them in a solid position at the break. Sunderland would come out with guns blazing in the second half. Although they were getting shots and keeping possession, it took them until the 71st minute to cut into the deficit. Patrick Van Aanholt pounced on a rebound spilled by Brad Guzan for the goal. That would be his one main mistake, though. The Black Cats couldn't get anything else going at the end. Boro would hold on for their first win in this Premier League run.

West Ham 1-0 AFC Bournemouth
The Hammers were disappointed with their start against Chelsea, but they had a good look at a win in their London Stadium opened against Bournemouth. They dominated the match in the first half in every way but the score. They made the most of their 46% possession by launching 11 shots to Bournemouth's lone attempt. None were all that threatening, though. The second half didn't see any increase in threats on goal. Bournemouth came alive somewhat, but still failed to produce anything better than shots crib distance. West Ham wasn't creating anything better, in fact, their attack must have fallen asleep at the half. A scoreless draw looked to be in the cards. The action did pick up a bit after the 77th minute when Harry Artrer tackled Michel Antonio from behind for his second yellow. That allowed West Ham the space to create their first Premier League goal at they're new home. It was Antonio rising to avoid 85th minute cross to head in the winning goal. Ten man Bournemouth couldn't push anything through and West Ham had the win in their first London Stadium match.
