Headlines
Germany is still being looked at for its likely shady 2006 World Cup bid. The head of that bid was Franz Beckenbauer and he is currently being investigated by Swiss authorities for various counts of fraud, criminal mismanagement, and the rest of the standard FIFA crimes in relation to that bid. He supposedly bought votes in order to secure the hosting rights to the tournament. Germany won the bid in a 12-11 vote over South Africa. For what it's worth, Beckenbauer has denied any wrongdoing.
