Hooligan's Wake Up: Leicester gets first Champions League win, Real Madrid survives Sporting

Yesterday's Scores
UEFA Champions League
Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 CSKA Moscow
(Chicharito 9', Calhanoglu 15')-(Dzagoev 36', Eremenko 38')

Tottenham 1-2 AS Monaco
(Alderweireld 45')-(Silva 15', Lemar 31')

Early Leverkusen goals were not enough to hold out a late first half Muscovian surge and a draw was in the cards. Spurs were lackluster in their Champions League opener as they fell at home to AS Monaco, who have been known to foil North London clubs in the past.

Legia Warsaw 0-6 Borussia Dortmund
(Goetze 7', Papastathopoulos 15', Bartra 17', Guerreiro 51', Castro 76', Aubameyang 87')

Real Madrid 2-1 Sporting CP
(Ronaldo 89', Morata 90+5')-(Cesar 47')

Borussia Dortmund took care of business in Poland with a six goal romp. Of particular note there was Christian Pulisic starting the match and earning an assist along the way. Real Madrid flirted with disaster as they were down to Sporting at the San Bernabeu until the final minutes of play. They would salvage the win in the end, but it wasn't pretty.

Club Brugge 0-3 Leicester City
(Albrighton 5', Mahrez 29', PK 61')

FC Porto 1-1 FC Copenhagen
(Otavio 13')-(Cornelius 52')

The question of whether Leicester City could compete in Europe got a favorable reply early on. The Foxes made simple work of Club Brugge in Belgium to jump out to an early group lead. FC Copenhagen also got an unexpected point on their trip to Portugal.

Juventus 0-0 Sevilla

Olympique Lyonnais 3-0 Dinamo Zagreb
(Tolisso 13', Ferri 49', Cornet 57')

Juve and Sevilla snoozed their way to a draw at the home of the Italian champions while Lyon walked right past Dinamo Zagreb to take the Group H lead.

Manchester City 4-0 Borussia Monchengladbach
(Aguero 8', PK 28', 77', Iheanacho 90+1')

An extra day off did Sergio Aguero wonders as his hat trick leads Manchester City through Borussia Monchengladbach with ease. It's a good start to a tricky draw for City, who will still have to face Barcelona twice.

CONCACAF Champions League
Árabe Unido 2-1 Monterrey
(Cox 43', Gonzalez 47')-(Montes 56')

Saprissa 4-2 Portland Timbers
(Taylor OG 34', Angulo PK 45', PK 75', Ronchetti 60')-(Valeri 5', Adi 65')

Panamanian club Arabe Unido has eliminated Liga MX side Monterrey from the tournament. Unlike last season, the CCL knockout rounds will not be a Mexico vs. United States affair. The Timbers also have their backs agaisnt the wall thanks to a rough go of things in Costa Rica. They will need to defeat Saprissa on their return to Portland and get a favorable result against CD Dragon of El Salvador.

Disgraced former UEFA president Michel Platini has his successor. Aleksander Ceferin has been elected president of the confederation, beating out Michael van Praag for the honor. Ceferin had been the president of the Slovenian FA since 2011. He won in a landslide, taking 42 of the 55 available votes. His platform included instituting term limits on the president and executive committee, combating match fixing with more ruthlessness, and altering the bidding process for the hosting of major events, such as the Champions League final and European Championships.
