Hooligan's Wake Up: Argentina shocked by Paraguay, USMNT draws New Zealand

Yesterday's Scores
World Cup Qualifying- UEFA
Kazakhstan 0-0 Romania

Czech Republic 0-0 Azerbaijan

Germany 2-0 Northern Ireland
(Draxler 13', Khedira 17')

Norway 4-1 San Marino
(Simoncini OG 11', Diomande 77', Samuelsen 82', King 83')-(Stefanelli 54')

Denmark 0-1 Montenegro
(Beqiraj 31')

Poland 2-1 Armenia
(Mkoyan OG 48', Lewandowski 90+5')-(Pizzelli 50')

Lithuania 2-0 Malta
Chernykh 75', Novikovas PK 84')

Slovakia 3-0 Scotland
(Mak 18', 56', Nemec 68')

Slovenia 0-0 England

After three rounds of UEFA's ten round qualifying process, we still have the usual suspects in qualifying spots. France, Germany, England, Spain, and Belgium all lead their groups. Less expected teams in qualifying spots right now include Switzerland over Portugal, Serbia, Montenegro (although Poland is level with them on seven points), and Croatia.

World Cup Qualifying- CONMEBOL
Bolivia 2-2 Ecuador
(Escobar 3', 43')-(Valencia 47', 89')

Colombia 2-2 Uruguay
(Aguilar 15', Mina 84')-(Rodriguez 27', Suarez 73')

Argentina 0-1 Paraguay
(Gonzalez 18')

Chile 2-1 Peru
(Vidal 10', 85')-(Flores 76')

Venezuela 0-2 Brazil
(Jesus 8', Willian 53')

With the win, Brazil heads to the top of South American qualifying with 21 points through ten rounds. Uruguay are a point back of them after their draw against fourth place Colombia. Ecuador also drew, keeping them down in third. Argentina's stumble at home (Without Lionel Messi) against Paraguay leaves them down in fifth place, which would put them in a playoff match against a team from Oceania, probably New Zealand. Chile, despite the win, are still two points back of Argentina.

World Cup Qualifying- AFC
Australia 1-1 Japan
(Jedinak PK 52')-(Haraguchi 5')

Iraq 4-0 Thailand
(Abdulraheem 7', 25', 87', 90+4')

Uzbekistan 2-0 China
(Bikmaev 50', Shukurov 85')

Iran 1-0 South Korea
(Azmoun 25')

Qatar 1-0 Syria
(Al Haydos PK 37')

Saudi Arabia 3-0 United Arab Emirates
(Al-Muwallad 73', Al-Abid 79', Al-Shehri 90+2')

Through four of ten matchdays in Asia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, and Australia are all in line to make it to Russia. Japan would face South Korea for the right to take on a CONCACAF team for the final spot in the World Cup.

International Friendly
United States 1-1 New Zealand
(Green 27')-(Patterson 72')

This was a frustrating result for the USA. It can more or less be blamed on Jurgen Klinsmann going off the deep end with his starting lineup and throwing Deandre Yedlin up front, Kellyn Acosta at an unnatural position in the back four, and other wacky ideas that came to him. I guess a non-competitive match against the lowly Kiwis is the place to play mad scientist with your starters, but let's hope he, like most of us, didn't like what he saw and won't do something like this during The Hex. It's only a friendly, so don't read much into it, but it's still kind of an ugly result.
