Headlines
Liga MX has pulled out of the Copa Libertadores, South America's version of the Champions League, for the 2017 season. This ends a 19 year run as participants in the most prestigious club tournament in Latin America. They are leaving due to a new schedule that will extend the competition from 27 to 42 weeks, overlapping heavily with the Mexican off season. They left the door open for 2018 and beyond, however.

As a result of this, Liga MX has suggested the possibility of a new cup competition that could collaborate with MLS. The last such tournament was the SuperLiga, which ran from 2007-2010 and featured for sides from each league while the CONCACAF Champions League came of age. Don Garber is on record saying he is open to the idea and there are even provisions in the MLS collective bargaining agreement allowing for such a hypothetical. The main hurdle would be scheduling, since Liga MX and MLS are on opposite schedules.

Gareth Southgate is likely going to take over as the full time England manager after his four interim matches resulted in two wins and two draws. Things are moving forward in that regard as he has an interview with the FA set for Monday. There is no rush to appoint a permanent successor to Sam Allardyce, as England's next match isn't until a friendly with Germany in March.
