Headlines
After playing his entire professional career abroad, former USA international defender Oguchi Onyewu is coming to MLS for the first time. He has signed with Philadelphia Union as a discovery player. He was part of the American squads for the 2006 and 2010 World Cups and has won several two Belgian league championships and a Dutch Cup in Europe, He has over 350 total appearances between the USMNT, Metz, Standard Liege, AC Milan, Queens Park Rangers and, most recently, Charlton Athletic, although he has been out of action since the 2014-15 season.

Speaking of US internationals, the USMNT has dropped Jermaine Jones and Sacha Kljestan for the second winter friendly on Friday against Jamaica. Both started and played significant minutes on Sunday afternoon in San Diego and are eager to join their MLS outfits in training camp.

Swedish international Gustav Svensson has signed with Seattle Sounders. The midfielder figures to slot in for fellow Swede Erik Friberg, who departed the Sounders over the winter. Svensson joins MLS from Guangzhou R&F in China, where he made 28 appearances. He has also played for clubs in Ukraine, Turkey, and Sweden.

Another city has joined the growing list of cities applying for MLS expansion. The latest on the list is Indianapolis, home to the NASL's leader in attendance, Indy Eleven. Indy Eleven is leading the bid, which has a new avenue for downtown stadium funding through the state government. They are the 12th city to announce their intention to apply for one of the four remaining MLS slots. The deadline to apply is today.

Sunderland's Patrick wan Aanholt is heading from one relegation fighter to another. He has signed with Crystal Palace for £14 million. He penned a four and a half year contract with the South London club, which hopes to use his strong goal scoring ability (for a full back) to remain in the Premier League after this year.

Hull's Ryan Mason has been released from the hospital following his skull cracking collision with Gary Cahill a couple weekends ago. He is now going to continue his recovery with the aim of returning to the club at some point. Although no timetable has been laid out yet.

The FA Cup sixth round draw was made yesterday evening and both the remaining non-league sides will have to face Premier League opposition. Sutton United will host giants Arsenal and Lincoln City will travel to Burnley. Here is the full slate of matches to be played the weekend of February 17-20:

International Friendly
United States 0-0 Serbia

The first of the January camp friendlies was rather boring. The early year rust was showing for the MLS dominated American squad as they only got one shot on target for the entire game despite controlling 61% of possession. Among the bright spots was Darlington Nagbe's performance along the left wing and Nick Rimando's pretty solid effort in goal. The back line, however, was sort of a mess for most of the game and Greg Garza really made a mess of his start at left back. Thankfully, none of the four starters from this match figure to take part in World Cup Qualifying since the starting back four was busy with their European clubs.

Overall, it's January camp and this sort of thing was expected. Bruce Arena's formation and tactics were of a bigger concern, at least to me. He listed his starters in a 4-2-3-1, however they mostly played as a 4-1-4-1 with a focus on attacking out wide. It will be interesting to see if he continues this plan on Friday in Chattanooga or if he tries out something different.

Headlines
Dmitri Payet's troubled days at West Ham are over. The free kick artist had requested a move back to Olympique Marseille and he has got his wish. The Hammers sold him back to France for £25 million after his refusal to play for the team earlier this month. Although the club had insisted they wouldn't sell him, Payet apparently won the battle after the signing of Hull's Robert Snodgrass allowed his position to be filled.

Headlines
Arsene Wenger has been handed a four game suspension and fined £25,000 for shoving and verbally abusing fourth official Anthony Taylor during Sunday's 2-1 win over Burnley. This will keep him off the touchline until a February 15 Champions League match at Bayern Munich. He will miss out on today's FA Cup Fourth Round match agaisnt Southampton and, more importantly, a huge match against league leaders Chelsea on February 3.

New York City FC has traded goalkeeper Josh Saunders to Orlando City. Down in Orlando, he could compete with Joe Bendik for the starting job after he was displaced at the end of last season in the Big Apple.

As has long been expected, Robert Snodgrass is departing Hull City for West Ham. The Hammers are sending £10.2 million the other way. The Scottish international was a key part in last season's promotion efforts and has seven Premier League goals this season. He's signed a three and a half year deal.

The draw for the Copa del Rey semi-finals is set. Atletico Madrid will take on Barcelona in the penultimate round beginning February 1 in Madrid. Celta Vigo will take on Alaves in the other match.

Hooligan's Daily: Minnesota United splashes cash for Kevin Molino

Yesterday's Scores
EFL Cup- Semi-Finals Second Leg
Hull City 2-1 Manchester United- 2:45pm (2-3 on aggregate)
(Huddlestone PK 35', Niasse 85')-(Pogba 66')

The EFL Cup Final is set for Sunday, February 26 between Southampton and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium.

Copa Del Rey- Quarterfinals Second Leg
Barcelona 5-2 Real Sociedad (6-2 on aggregate)
(D. Suarez 17', 82', Messi PK 55', L.Suarez 73', Turan 80')-(Juanmi 62', Jose 73')

Headlines
Minnesota United has sent a total of $650,000 in allocation money to Orlando City for winger Kevin Molino. Molino will take his 11 goals and 8 assists from 2016 to an unproven attack that contains NASL scoring champ Christian Ramirez and NASL and Liga MX veteran Miguel Iborra. It feels like a steep price to pay, but we don't have much to compare it to since we don't have spending figures from before this offseason. Orlando loses a big attacking piece, but does have some cash to throw around in search of a replacement.

MLS has another expansion candidate. Phoenix has thrown its hat in the ring to become one of the next four MLS clubs to join the fold. Currently, Phoenix Rising FC, who were known as Arizona United last year, is the lone pro club in the area and they play in the USL. They are the 11th market to enter the race joining Charlotte, Cincinnati, Detroit, Nashville, Raleigh/Durham, Sacramento, St. Louis, San Antonio, San Diego and Tampa/St. Petersburg. The deadline to apply is January 31.

Headlines
Landon Donovan has turned down an offer to play for Real Salt Lake next season. Reports indicate that is may have been a Designated Player deal, as well. Talks had been going on for quite some time as RSL had been interested since LA Galaxy decided not to retain him. He has not given a reason for the denial nor has he indicated whether he wants to play in 2017 or not.

Brad Guzan is officially headed to Atlanta United at the end of the Premier League season. He has been in England since signing with Aston Villa in 2008. He is currently on a one year deal with Middlesbrough and occupies the backup keeper spot behind Victor Valdes. He will move on a free transfer once his deal runs out.

On the other side of the pond, Patrice Evra is leaving Juventus for Olympique Marseille on a free transfer. The French full back signed an 18 month deal with the famous Ligue 1 club. He last played in France with AS Monaco until he joined Manchester United in 2006.

After have been forced to sit out since August with an irregular heartbeat, Clint Dempsey is cleared to return to practice with the Seattle Sounders. He participated in team drills for the first time yesterday. He has not been cleared for game action yet, but the Sounders expect he will be fit in time for the MLS opened on March 4 against Houston. He may even be able to get a run out during the preseason.

Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco reportedly has a lucrative offer on the table from a Chinese club. His goal scoring prowess in MLS has apparently caught the eyes of the Far East. Although his agent claims the offer is there, the club and league maintain that they have not received any bids for Giovinco's services.

Orlando City has landed US international defender Jonathan Spector from Birmingham City. He's signed a two year deal with the Lions worth a reported $1.75 million. Spector has made 36 international appearances with the USA, which include a spot on the 2010 World Cup squad. He has been with Birmingham since 2011 and has played with West Ham and Manchester United since turning pro in 2003.

One time American soccer wonderkid Freddy Adu is back and trying to get a spot on an MLS roster. Adu is at Portland Timbers training camp in Tuscon, Arizona looking to make his first MLS team since a brief stint with Philadelphia Union in 2013. He has played for 13 clubs in as many seasons since being heralded as the greatest American soccer teen ever. Strange to think he is only 27 years old with plenty of career left in front of him is he can latch on somewhere.

Sunderland have signed defender Joleon Lescott on a short term deal. The Black Cats are hoping he can help stave off relegation after failing to do so with Aston Villa last year. He was in Greece playing with AEK Athens this year, but had his contract cancelled in November.

Hooligan's Daily: Pulisic extends Dortmund deal to 2020

Zimbabwe 2-4 Tunisia
(Musona 42', Ndoro 58')-(Sliti 9', M'Sakni 22', Khenissi 36', Khazri PK 45')

Headlines
American wonderkid Christian Pulisic has extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2020. This clears up the wave of transfer rumors involving the Pennsylvania native. He has been linked several times with clubs in the Premier League and each time Dortmund has told them to bugger off. He has enjoyed an increasingly productive time with the club. He has cemented himself as a regular along Dortmund's left wing and has scored twice this season.

Arsenal's manager Arsene Wenger has been charged with violent conduct for shoving and verbally abusing the fourth official in Sunday's clash with Burnley. It's a rare charge for Wenger, who has not seen any suspensions since 2012. The most recent similar charge also came from 2012 when Alan Pardew, then with Newcastle, shoved an official and was fined £20,000. Wenger has until Thursday to respond to the allegations.

Everton has loaned Gerard Deulofeu to AC Milan in Serie A until the end of this season. The sometimes electric midfielder has played in 13 matches for the Toffees this year. Manager Ronald Koeman hopes he will get valuable game experience during his few months in Italy.

CONCACAF announced a new format for the 2017-18 Champions League. Instead of a 24 team group stage, there will be a 16 team knockout competition that will feature teams from the Caribbean and Central America. That tournament will run from August to October and the winner will join 15 other sides in a second 16 team knockout competition beginning in February. The 15 teams will be made up of the MLS and Liga MX sides that currently make it along with champions of the Caribbean Cup and domestic leagues of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama. The new format begins this season, so the MLS and Mexican teams will not pick up continental action until February 2018.

A prospective MLS ownership group in San Diego has come forth with plans for luring the league to their city. They have unveiled a $1 billion development plan for the site of Qualcomm Stadium, the former home of the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers. The development will feature a 30,000 seat stadium that would be used by both the MLS team and San Diego State University. The group is not asking for any taxpayer money in the plan.

Southampton 3-0 Leicester City
(Ward-Prowse 26', Rodríguez 39', Tadic PK 86')

Arsenal 2-1 Burnley
(Mustafi 59', Sanchez PK 90+8')-(Gray 90+3')

There was quite a wild finish to this match and neither side will be happy with the officiating. Arsenal was already playing a man down thanks to a questionable red card against Granit Xhaka, who is now the most sent off player in Europe over the past year. Arsene Wenger then got himself sent off for shoving the fourth official after a penalty was rightfully called against Francis Coquelin to set up Burnley's tying goal. A cleat to the face of Laurent Koscielny near the goal set up the Sanchez winner, but he was offside as he was pursuing the ball.

Chelsea 2-0 Hull City

Chelsea are now eight points clear at the top of the table following this victory. Arsenal sit in second place at the moment. The two play each other at Stamford Bridge on February 4.

Hooligan's Daily: Rooney breaks Manchester United goal record, Balotelli abused again

Yesterday's Scores
Premier League
Liverpool 2-3 Swansea
(Firmino 55', 69')-(Llorente 48', 52', Sigurdsson 74')

AFC Bournemouth 2-2 Watford
(King 48', Afobe 82')-(Kabasele 24', Deeney 64')

Middlesbrough 1-3 West Ham
(Stuani 27')-(Carroll 9', 43', Calleri 90+4')

Stoke City 1-1 Manchester United
(Mata OG 19')-(Rooney 90+4')

Wayne Rooney's late equalizer not only salvaged a road point for United, but it also was his 250th for the club, which breaks Sir Bobby Charlton's club record. It was a glorious strike. He took a free kick from the left side of goal and blasted it into the top corner from a tough angle. Charlton himself would surely be proud to have his record surpassed on such a majestic free kick.

West Bromwich Albion 2-0 Sunderland
(Fletcher 30', Brunt 36')

Manchester City 2-2 Tottenham
(Sane 49', De Bruyne 64')-(Alli 58', Son 77')

Tottenham will take this point, mostly because they are truly fortunate to have it. Shortly before the Son equalizer, Raheem Sterling was pushed in the box on a breakaway. It should have been a penalty and red card for Kyle Walker, but Sterling did not go down on the play, causing Andre Marriner to ignore the infraction and wave play on. Sterling did get a shot off, but it was square into Hugo Lloris. Son scored seconds later to equalize and earn a share of the points.

Headlines
Nice's Mario Balotelli has brought up a complaint with Ligue 1 alleging he was racially harassed by Bastia fans during Friday's night's 1-1 draw. The complaint, which will be investigated by the league, claims Balotelli was the subject of monkey imitations by the home supporters. Balotelli has been the subject of racist fans before. Most recently, in 2013 a match between AC Milan and AS Roma was halted due to the racial abuse from Roma supporters aimed at Balotelli. Batista fans are also no stranger to punishments from racism. They were docked two points in the 2007-08 season for racially abusing Boubacar Kebe before a Ligue 2 match.

Headlines
Memphis Depay's Manchester United career has come to an end. He has joined Olympique Lyonnais on a four and a half year del after departing the Red Devils for €16 million. Depay Joined United in 2014 as Louis Van Gaal's first signings and never really caught on. He is being sold at a loss. United paid nearly twice as much as they are getting back for him two and a half years ago.

West Ham has signed Southampton captain Jose Fonte for £8 million. Fonte had a requested a move away from St. Mary's earlier this month. He had been with the team since their days down in League One, so it will be strange not to see him on the team. He made 288 overall appearances with Saints

Saido Berahino is also on the move. West Brom have sold him to Stoke City for £12 million. One of the Baggies' top goal scorers when healthy, he hasn't played since September and has a contract up at the end of the season. He was almost sold over the summer, but the club turned down a bid from Tottenham, which greatly upset him. Now, he is off to another mid-table club with very little to play for this season.

Finally, today is the first friendly match for Chapecoense since the tragic plane crash that killed most of their side. The club has restocked its roster with 22 new players to join the four who did not make the trip to Colombia for the Copa Sudamericana final. It will surely be an emotional day for all of Brazilian soccer.
