Hooligan's Daily: Leicester show flashes of last year to down Liverpool

Yesterday's Scores
Premier League
Liverpool 1-3 Leicester City
(Coutinho 68')-(Vardy 28', 60', Drinkwater 39')

No Claudio Ranieri, no problem for Leicester. For a brief moment in an awful season, the Foxes looked like the Foxes of last season with a wonderful upset of top four contenders Liverpool. Vardy scored twice after a goal drought of over ten hours of gameplay. Danny Drinkwater fired home a stunner , as well. Those were Leicester City's first Premier League goals in 2017 as their goal drought had been wrecking the squad. Who knows if the manager change will truly turn around their season, but for at least one night, they went back to the tactics and energy that brought them the title last season.

Serie A
Fiorentina 2-2 Torino
(Saponara 8', Kalinic 38')-(Belotti 65', 85')

Hooligan's Daily: Mourinho pockets a trophy for Manchester United

Yesterday's Scores
EFL Cup- Final
Manchester United 3-2 Southampton
(Ibrahimovic 19', 87', Lindgard 38')-(Gabbiadini 45+1', 48')

In one of the more thrilling Cup Finals you will ever see, Zlatan Ibrahimovic thumped home a header in the 87th minute to give Jose Mourinho is first Manchester United trophy. Southampton can't be discredited for their efforts, though. Manolo Gabbiadini should have had a hat trick, but his first goal was incorrectly ruled offside. Saints had much of the momentum for the second half once they tied the score, but they no answer for Ander Herrera's picture perfect cross to the head of Zlatan for the winner.

For a while, it looked like the title conversation in Spain would take on an entirely new tone as Real Madrid looked weak and feeble through an hour in this one. Javier Chicharito Hernandez has long been on the radar of several MLS clubs and now it appears he is closer to coming to the USA. He is reportedly in negotiations to join the league in the summer of 2018 after his Bayer Leverkusen contract comes to an end. The two sides with the most interest are LA Galaxy and the expansion LAFC, who begin play in 2018.

The Seattle Sounders are also looking to bring in a high profile international. They are close to signing Japanese midfielder Keisuke Honda from AC Milan. If he signs, he would be Seattle's third Designated Player. The 30 year old has seen decreased playing time in Serie A, but peaked two seasons ago when he scored six goals in 29 games.

Nine months after shocking the world and winning the Premier League, Leicester City have sacked manager Claudio Ranieri. His team has done nothing but struggle since winning the title in May and things have only gotten worse since the calendar changed to 2017. Leicester have not scored a Premier League goal in the new year and are only one point clear of relegation. The were eliminated from the FA Cup by third tier Millwall last weekend and suffered an honorable 2-1 defeat in the first leg of the Champions League tie with Sevilla. Assistant manager Craig Shakespeare will take over during the search for a permanent replacement.

Wayne Rooney insists he is staying with Manchester United amidst rumors he is leaving for China this summer, but that isn't stopping MLS clubs from being interested in his services. The one club mentioned was Los Angeles FC, who begin play in 2018 and would love a big name like Rooney to get the club off the ground.

Mario Balotelli's second red card and third sending off of the season will come along with a two match ban. The red was given to the Italian over the weekend for abuse of the referee. He will not be on the team for tonight's clash with Montpellier or Nice's next match on March 4 agaisnt Dijon. Nice are title challengers in France, but their chances are dwindling with Balotelli seemingly unable to control his temper.

The Europa League Round of 16 draw went down this morning. Manchester United, the one Enlgish team left, got a pretty tricky draw against Rostov. They should have no problem at home, but the away leg in Russia is never an easy task. The other two big matches are Bundesliga foes Schalke and Borussia Monchengladbach going against each other and Olympique Lyonnais going against Italian giants AS Roma. Here is the full draw:

Celta Vigo v. Krasnodar
Apoel Nicosia v. Anderlecht
Schalke 04 v. Borussia Monchengladbach
Olympique Lyonnais v. Roma
Rostov v. Manchester United
Olympiakos v. Besiktas
KAA Gent v. Racing Genk
Copenhagen v. Ajax

The first legs will be played on March 9 and the seconds on March 16.

Hooligan's Daily: Lallana extends Liverpool deal to 2020

Europa League- Round of 32 Second Leg

Fenerbahce 1-1 Krasnodar (1-2 on aggregate)

St. Etienne 0-1 Manchester United (0-4 on aggregate)
(Mkhitaryan 16')

La Liga
Valencia 2-1 Real Madrid
(Zaza 4', Orellana 9')-(Ronaldo 44')

Real Madrid fails to take advantage of one of their two games in hand over the other Spanish title challengers. They still hold a slim one point advantage over Barcelona, but they now only have one extra match to build upon that lead. The next Clasico is on April 23 and it could be a big one, as always, as far as the La Liga title goes. Sevilla is also in the hunt at only three points behind, but they've already beaten Real once in the league this year. The two play once more in the capital on May 14.

CONCACAF Champions League- Quarterfinals First Leg
New York Red Bulls 1-1 Vancouver Whitecaps
(Wright-Philips 62')-(Manneh 39')

UANL 1-1 Pumas UNAM
(Vargas 41')-(Britos 62')

MLS sides returned to competitive action with this CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal. The 1-1 draw gives Vancouver a slight leg up in the second leg as MLS is guaranteed to have a semi-final participant this year, Last year, all four MLS sides in the knockout rounds were eliminated by Liga MX foes. FC Dallas joins the fray tonight against Panamanian side Arabe Unido.

Liverpool's Adam Lallana has signed a new deal with the club that will keep him there into 2020. He will make £110,000 per week during that time. He has done quite well this year for the Reds. He has seven goals to equal a career high.

A couple of injuries during Manchester United's Europa League win will cost them during Sunday's EFL Cup Final agaisnt Southampton. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Michael Carrick were both subbed off with injuries during the match. Mkhitaryan hobbled off the pitch shortly after scoring the game's only goal. Carrick left just after the hour mark. Both are probably out for Sunday's final.

Beloved Sutton United goalkeeper Wayne Shaw was immediately caught up in a gambling scandal after their defeat against Arsenal in the FA Cup fifth rough. Cameras showed him eating a pie (or pasty, if you prefer) on the bench towards the end of the match. Turns out there was a a gambling site run by The Sun newspaper (who sponsors the club) with 8 to 1 odds on such an occurrence and a few of Shaw's friends took the bet. The FA and the UK Gambling Commission is investigating the incident and Shaw has resigned from his post of backup goalkeeper and goalkeeping coach at Sutton United.

There were a few Chinese move rumors floating around yesterday and early today as their transfer window nears its close. The first involved Wayne Rooney, who, despite talks with Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjin, is staying put at Manchester United for at least the rest of this season. The next involved Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco turning down a move to Asia amidst work that he might leave MLS. Finally, Manchester United's Ashley Young could be on the move to Shandong Luneng.

Hooligan's Daily: Arsenal end Sutton's FA Cup run in a snoozer

YEsterday's Scores
FA Cup- Fifth Round
Sutton United 0-2 Arsenal
(Perez 26', Walcott 55')

Sutton United's FA Cup run comes to an end after this more or less boring game. Arsenal's first goal could be best described as an accident and their second wasn't all that impressive either. Neither of them were really celebrated. Both sides were more or less going through the motions as if the result were predetermined. It will still be a night to remember for Sutton. They played a rare match agaisnt a top level club on their tiny home pitch. It's not something they have seen before and probably won't see again for quite some time. Arsenal will host non-league Lincoln City in the next round in what is proving to be one of the easiest FA Cup runs we have ever seen for a Premier League club.

Hooligan's Daily: Lincoln City to get Arsenal-Sutton winner in quarters

Yesterday's Scores
FA Cup- Fifth Round
Fulham 0-3 Tottenham
(Kane 16', 51', 73')

Blackburn Rovers 1-2 Manchester United
(Graham 17')-(Rashford 27', Ibrahimovic 75')

Borussia Monchengladbach 1-2 RB Leipzig
(Vestergaard 81')-(Forsberg 31', Werner 55')

Leipzig stops their modest two game losing skid and, thanks to Saturday's Bayern Munich draw, cuts into their lead atop the Bundesliga. Bayern are now five points ahead of the upstart challengers with 13 matches remaining.

FC Koln 1-1 Schalke 04
(Modeste 43')-(Schopf 2')

La Liga

Celta Vigo 3-0 Osasuna
(Sisto 23', Jozabed 87', Aspas 89')

Barcelona 2-1 Leganes
(Messi 4', PK 90')-(Lopez 71')

This was another uninspiring performance for Barcelona. The only reason they managed to get the full three points was due to the penalty near the death of the match. They were, in fact, lucky that Leganes didn't score a couple more on the counter attack. This wasn't exactly the home performance against the relegation candidates they were hoping for. After their midweek meltdown in Paris there is little to believe that Barcelona will have any hope of catching Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.

FC Cincinnati are no longer coached by USA legend John Harkes. a power struggle with general manager Jeff Berding is apparently to blame. He will be replaced by assistant coach Alan Koch. FC Cincinnati made the playoffs in front of record crowds in their first season in the USL.

Atlanta United have named MLS veteran Michael Parkhurst their captain for their inaugural season. The 33 year old, four time all-star will take command of a team that has high expectations considering the money they have spent on players and the high season ticket sales. They hope to become the first expansion team since the 2009 Sounders to make the playoffs in their first try.

Al Curtis is no longer the New York Red Bulls' sporting director. Curtis and the club parted ways on mutual consent yesterday, The club thanked him for his two years of service and his major role in bringing the Supporters Shield home in 2015. No details were given on why he is leaving the club, just that it was mutual. It certainly wasn't due to poor performance. The Red Bulls won the Shield in his first season and finished with the best record in the East last season. Perhaps a squabble with ownership? Nobody outside of the club seems to know much at this point.

Highly respected referee Mark Clattenburg is leaving his post in England to take a job in Saudi Arabia. The Globe Soccer referee of the year has been part of the Premier League officiating setup since 2004 and taken charge of the European Championships Final, Champions League Final, and FA Cup final. He ha s reportedly grown unhappy with the support received from his parent organization, The Professional Game Match Officials Limited. His last match was Arsenal's 2-0 win over Hull City on Saturday.

New York City have signed their third Designated Player. Winger Maximiliano Moralez is coming to the Big Apple from Leon in Liga MX on a three year deal. The Argentina international has scored a pair of goals in 14 matches in Mexico this season. He spent time in Russia and Italy before crossing the Atlantic.

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has accepted the improper conduct charge agaisnt him for throwing a microphone in frustration after his team conceded a late equalizer against West Brom last weekend. His punishment will be an £8,000 fine. His assistant manager, Nikola Jurcevic, has also accepted an improper conduct charge for arguing with an official and has also been fined £8,000.

Atlanta United ticket sales have continued to do quite well. The total sales for their March 5 home opener has reached 40,000. The team will open their season at Georgia Tech's Bobby Dodd Stadium while construction finishes on their permanent home at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. That 40,000 number is greater than the soccer capacity at their new home. The club has also said that it is on pace to sell out the 55,000 seat Bobby Dodd for their opener. They hope to be in their new home for a JUly 30 match with Orlando City.

D.C, United's future stadium at Buzzard Point has an official name. The new 20,000 seat venue will be called Audi Field after coming to a naming rights agreement with the auto maker. The club plans to break ground on the facility in the next month or two.

Clint Dempsey has been cleared to return to competition after being held out since August with an irregular heartbeat. He claims to be about 85-90% of his full fitness, but doctors feel he no longer poses a risk to his health if he were to participate in game action. He did not go into specifics, only said the he is "...not experiencing those issues anymore.''

Gabriel Jesus, Manchester City's newest standout, suffered a broken toe in the 15th minute of Monday night's 2-0 win at Bournemouth. There is no timetable for recovery yet, but he is in doubt for Manchester City's big games over the next two months, including games against Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea.

Hull City have been charged by the FA for failing to control their players after an incident early in the second half of Saturday's match at Emirates Stadium. The charge stems from players' behavior after a Kieran Gibbs yellow card. The FA says the team failed  make sure they act in an orderly fashion. They have until Friday to respond to the allegations.

West Ham's Slaven Bilic is the latest Premier League manager to be charged with improper conduct this season. The Hammers boss took some frustrations out on a television microphone after West Brom equalized during stoppage time against him on Saturday. His assistant manager, Nikola Jurcevic, was also charged after he was sent to the stands for protesting a disallowed goal.

The Vancouver Whitecaps are close to bringing Fredy Montero back to MLS. He was well known during his time with the Seattle Sounders from 2009-2012. He then returned to Colombia before a stint in Portugal and a big money move to China. The Caps reportedly have a loan deal with his current club of Tianjin Teda with an option to buy at the end of the year.

Hooligan's Daily: Leicester socreless in six, cropping closer to drop zone

Yesterday's Scores
Premier League
Burnley 1-1 Chelsea
(Brady 24')-(Pedro 7')

Well, well, well. Chelsea did disappoint on the road at Burnley and dropped points to make sure their lead atop the League is only ten points. This is still pretty insurmountable, but it was nice to see even the presumptive Champions can slip up in normally winnable away match. Not to mention Burnley have actually assembled a bit of a fortress at Turf Moor this season. They have taken 29 out of 42 possibly home points while outscoring their opponents 22-12.

Swansea City 2-0 Leicester City
(Mawson 36', Olsson 45+2')

Leicester City are mired in one serious slump right now. Not only  have they not scored a single goal in their last six matches, but are they bordering on becoming the first defending Premier League champion to be relegated and the first top flight champion to go down since Manchester City back in the 30s. Be glad we got all the fun and joy in last year, because Leicester City are a far cry of what they were during that increasingly unbelievable title run.

VfL Wolfsburg 2-1 TSG Hoffenheim
(Arnold 50', Didavi 73')-(Zuber 26')

SC Freiburg 1-1 FC Koln
(Grifo 32')-(Modeste 39')

La Liga
Villarreal 1-1 Malaga
(Bruno PK 62')-(Charles 14')

Leganés 0-2 Sporting Gijon
(Canella 66', Burugi 83')

Las Palmas 0-0 Sevilla

Atletico Madrid 3-2 Celta Vigo
(Torres 11', Carrasco 86', Griezmann 88')-(Cabral 5', Guidetti 78')

This was a bit of as struggle for Atletico, but they got the job done. Make sure you go check out Fernando Torres's overhead stunner to open the scoring. After a hot start to the Seton he has sort of cooled off, but maybe a highlight real goal like this one can give him, and Atletico Madrid, a bit of a kick start. Although, he did miss a penalty later on in the match.
