CONCACAF is looking to take a page out of UEFA's book by replacing friendlies with a competitive nations league. CONCACAF president and FIFA vice president Victor Montagliani is hoping to eliminate these mostly meaningless games beginning in 2018. Finalized plans for a competition format aren't set in stone yet, but we do know that all 41 members of the confederation would be involved. Europe is starting one of these competitions up in order to get rid of pointless friendlies, which would make it harder for North American teams to find opponents.

Speaking of friendlies, the USMNT looks to be taking on Venezuela in one at Rio Tinto Stadium in Utah on June 3, five days before their World Cup Qualifier against Trinidad and Tobago in Denver. Bruce Arena says these high altitude clashes should help prepare the team for a visit to the mile and a half high Mexico City on June 11. They are also going to take on old friends Ghana in a Gold Cup warm up at Rentschler Field in East Hartford Connecticut on July 1.

Now time for a couple of notes on the Premier League injury front. Liverpool's Sadio Mane will miss the rest of the season after a collision with Everton's Leighton Baines injured his knee last weekend. The Reds are also without Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson, who are inching closer to returning, but still don't have a set timetable. On the flip side of that news, Tottenham could be getting Harry Kane back this weekend. He could start the game against Watford after an ankle injury has kept him out for three games and the international break.

Celtic are the Scottish champions for the sixth year in a row and manager Brendan Rodgers is being rewarded with a new four year contract. The somewhat disgraced former Liverpool manager was hired by the Scottish giants on a rolling one year contract, and winning the title with a month and a half to spare has convinced the club to sign him more permanently.
