I feel like we've heard this story before, maybe around this time last year, but John Terry has announced he will leave Chelsea after this season. I suppose he is serious this time. He has no intentions of hanging up his boots, however. He intends to keep playing, be it in England or abroad. MLS, however, has no intentions of luring him across the Atlantic Ocean. This also echoes from this same story last year when it was his salary demands keeping him from coming to the league. I imagine he hasn't lowered his asking price enough, or at all.
We know the first of the three teams to join the Premier League next season. Brighton and Hove Albion are heading to the top flight for the first time since 1983 thanks to their 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic in the Championship yesterday. This comes as a huge relief since they missed out on promotion by a single point last year after drawing Middlesbrough on the last day of the season. They can clinch the Championship title with a win next week.
Newcastle are currently in second and are still six points clear of automatic promotion. Only a total collapse will keep them from rejoining the Premier League after a year off. Five teams are in contention for the four promotion playoff spots. Reading, Huddersfield Town, Sheffield Wednesday, and Fulham currently hold places, but Leeds is only behind the Cottagers on goal difference with three games left to play.
