Big Sam Allardyce saved Crystal Palace from relegation and is now retiring. Allardyce took over for Alan Pardew in December and helped bring the team up from 17th at the time to finish in 14th place. He had signed a two and a half year deal, but now says he's leaving the club and not seeking a new job. The year was a strange one for him. He was the England manager for two months before a Telegraph undercover report caught him engaging in talks with fake foreign investors over illegal player payments. He's had stints at Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle, Blackburn Rovers, West Ham, Sunderland and Crystal Palace without ever being relegated from the Premier League.

Real Madrid have signed 16-year-old Brazilian prospect Vinicius Junior from Flamengo for a reported €45 million. He is eligible join the club next summer, after he turns 18, due to FIFA restrictions on international youth transfers. However, the current plan has him staying in Brazil for an extra year after that unless both sides agree to do the deal sooner.

Laurent Koscielny will miss the FA Cup Final on Saturday after his red card from last weekend was upheld after an appeal. He was shown straight red early in the Premier League finale agaisnt Everton, which Arsenal still won 3-1. The three game ban will carry over into the beginning of next season, meaning he misses the first two games of the new Premier League season in August.

Jermaine Defoe was allowed to leave Sunderland on a free transfer following their relegation and it appears he is choosing Bournemouth for next season. He scored 15 goals for the Black Cats last season and is returning to the Cherries, who had him on loan in the 2000-01 season,

Finally, Joey Barton has been released by Burnley after he was banned from the game for a year and a half following probes into his massive gambling problem. Barton was found to have bet on hundreds of matches, including many he played in.
