Manchester City have succeeded in a £50 million bid for Tottenham right back Kyle Walker. This sort of makes up for their inability to sign Dani Alves from Juventus on a free transfer. Walker will undergo a medical today before making the move official.
Toronto FC have signed Nicolas Hasler from Swiss club FC Vaduz. He is the first player from Lichtenstein to come to MLS. The 26-year-old wing back has been capped 46 times by his country. At the club level, he has been with Vaduz since 2011, where he has played 136 times with ten goals scored.
Tuesday's planned meeting between MLS officials and Mecklenburg County Commissioners concerning Charlotte's expansion bid has been canceled. There were concerns over whether the meeting should be open to the public or not. Local laws say any meeting of that size would have to be out in the open, while rumors indicate MLS was trying to hold it behind closed doors. There remains a possibility that a private meeting could occur next week.
There were a few small scale moves throughout Europe yesterday:
- Watford signed Chelsea prospect Nathaniel Chalobah on a five year deal. The midfielder made ten appearances for the Blues last year.
- Barcelona signed Benfica defender Nelson Semedo for €38 million.
- Enner Valencia is leaving West Ham to join Tigres in Liga MX.
- Brighton have signed Austrian fullback Markus Suttner from FC Ingolstadt.
