Here's some scary news for Manchester City fans. Sergio Aguero was involved in a car crash in Amsterdam on Thursday. He suffered a broken rib, but it could have been much worse. Aguero was a passenger in a taxi on his was to the Amsterdam airport when the driver lost control of the car and it slammed into a pillar on the side of the road. Aguero will miss a few weeks with his injuries, but he is thankfully okay in the grand scheme of things.

The other half of Manchester didn't get much good news yesterday, either. Paul Pogba, who was injured in the club's Champions League win over Basel back on September 12, will be out "long term" according to Jose Mourinho. His hamstring injury is apparently worse than originally thought. The initial diagnosis kept him out for a month or so, but the revised timetable isn't as optimistic. Mourinho wouldn't comment on the specific length of time, though.

Dele Alli will be suspended for one England game after he gave Kyle Walker the finger during their most recent World Cup Qualifier. FIFA also fined him 5,000 Swiss francs. The gesture was deemed "offensive and unsporting" by world soccer's governing body, even if Alli maintains it was playful in nature.

The defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League was apparently the last straw for Bayern Munich as they sacked manager Carlo Ancelotti yesterday after barely more than a season in charge. Ancelotti led them to yet another Bundesliga title last year, but failed in Europe and is not off to a hot start in either competition this year. Former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel is the favorite to replace him.

Manchester City confirmed they will be without Benjamin Mendy for the entire season thanks to some torn knee ligaments. The defender left last weekend's 5-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace in the first half. The Frenchman will undergo surgery today and then begin rehabbing the injury. City will be left without an actual left back in the meantime, opening up some interesting winter transfer possibilities.

Montreal Impact signed star midfielder Ignacio Piatti to an extension. His contract was slated to end next summer, but now their leading attacker will be around for longer on a designated player contract. Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Colorado Rapids forward Kevin Doyle is retiring after consulting with doctors. Doyle has suffered two concussions this year alone and many more throughout his 16 year career. He had stops in Ireland, the Premier League, and MLS. He joined Colorado in 2015 and made 71 appearances for them, scoring 16 goals.

New York City FC took a step towards getting out of Yankee Stadium yesterday. They put a bid in on a stadium site in Belmont Park. They will compete with the NHL's New York Islanders for the same spot. The movement to get out of the baseball stadium has intensified over this season as they were forced to move a home game last week to Connecticut and may have to move more before the season is out thanks to the Yankees making the MLB playoffs.

West Ham and Tottenham were charged by the FA for failing to control their players when they scuffled on Saturday. The incident happened late in the 3-2 Spurs victory when several players got into a dustup. Five players were shown a yellow card during stoppage time of the match. The teams have until tonight to respond.

Schalke 04 have made a long term commitment to a young American. Weston McKennie signed a new five year deal with the club after showing plenty of life in his first few months with the senior team. He started his first Bundesliga game against Bayern Munich earlier this month. The Texas native is expected to become a key part of the squad in the coming years. He is a product of the FC Dallas Academy and has represented the USA at the U17, U19, and U20 levels.

Diego Costa has finalized his move to Atletico Madrid as he passed his medical with his new club. He will be eligible to join them on January 1, when the winter transfer window opens and Atletico Madrid's transfer ban ends.

National Anthem protests made their way to the soccer world last year by way of Megan Rapinoe, who knelt for the anthem before a couple NWSL games, prompting U.S. Soccer to adopt a policy that anyone representing the federation at the national team level is required to stand for the anthem. That policy is still in place, as Rapinoe, Becky Sauerbrunn, and other USWNT figures stayed in the locker room for the National Anthem before an NWSL match between Seattle Reign and FC Kanasa City on Sunday. I suppose we will see if there's any teeth to this policy with the USWNT playing some friendlies next month.

The MLS Players Union tweeted their support for anthem protesters over the weekend, so I suppose we may see something coming to the men's game in this country soon.

I support players who exercise their right to free speech before games, regardless of their cause. The men and women who some claim this practice disrespects died for many things, including a person's right to free speech, which includes anthem protests as far as I'm concerned.

Stop me if you've heard this one before, but Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands during Manchester United's win against Sunderland on Saturday. The Special One came onto the pitch towards the end of the match and was told to take a seat away from the bench because of it. He will avoid further punishment after the FA reviewed footage of the incident, but it's still a fun addition to Mourinho's extensive record of trouble.

Atlanta United may be unbeaten in their new stadium, but the turf claimed a victim anyway. Miguel Almiron will miss at least three weeks with a hamstring injury suffered against Montreal Impact on Sunday. The Paraguayan international has nine goals on the season, so he will be tough to replace for the streaking expansion team.

It was a good day for lower league soccer stadium development as the mayor of Louisville revealed a $200 million development plan centered around a new soccer specific stadium for Louisville City FC. The club will put $50 million towards the project, which will cover the costs of a 10,000 seat stadium, that could serve as a launching point for an MLS expansion effort. The city will contribute $30 million and unnamed private investors will cover the rest of the project, which is also set to include retail space and hotels.

HeadlinesAtletico Madrid have been chosen as hosts for the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League Final. their brand new Wanda Metropolitano will host the continent's marquee event. The new facility holds 68,000 fans. It will be the first Final in Spain since 2010.

Chelsea and Manchester City are the latest clubs targeted for the illegal signing of youth players. FIFA is opening an investigation into the two clubs' practices of signing players under 18 years old. It isn't the first time either club has been investigated. Chelsea was banned form signing new players for two years back in 2009 and City was fined £300,000 and banned from academy signings back in May.

This weekend's Liga MX games have been called off as clubs transform their stadiums into relief centers for the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck the country this week. As much as the league would like to provide some welcome entertainment, humanitarian aid comes first. The matches will be made up in mid-October.

The NASL filed a lawsuit against U.S. Soccer yesterday alleging that the federation's revocation of their Division II status is proof that they are hindering the league's ability to compete with MLS and the USL. This is despite the fact that the league has needed waivers to remain in the second tier from its very beginning and still hasn't fulfilled the most basic requirement, having 12 teams. This feels like yet another last ditch effort to save the troubled league and I fear it will only end up as wasted legal expenses, as the league may fold before the lawsuit can truly play out. And, even if it does, I can't imagine it going in the NASL's favor anyway.

Denmark's FA aren't looking good in their labor dispute with their women's national team. They had to cancel a friendly against the Netherlands last week and are in danger of forfeiting a World Cup Qualifying match on Tuesday if no agreement is reached. The FA wishes to no longer classify the women as employees of the DBU (the Danish FA), which is silly. The men are paid out for their play, the women should be too. They deserve the same basic rights to a salary as their male counterparts, like any other woman out there.

Ousmane Dembele, Barcelona's big money replacement for Neymar, was declared unfit when he arrived at the club and will now miss some time with injury. He made his La Liga debut yesterday and left injured after barely more than 20 minutes. He hobbled off the pitch with a hamstring injury and will now miss "some time" as he recovers.

MLS stopped paying San Jose Earthquakes defender Mavell Wynne, who signed a new contract with the club before undergoing a nine hour heart surgery back in March. He hasn't played this season, not has he been cleared to return to full training. The league stopped paying his contract on July 1, although they could have voided it completely before the surgery due to a failed physical.
