The Philippe Coutinho/Liverpool/Barcelona saga keeps getting stranger. Barcelona claim that Liverpool were asking the rather insane cost of €200 million for the Brazilian midfielder, but Liverpool are flatly denying that. Barcelona were never prepared to pay that price, even though they jsut fetched €222 million for Neymar.

My guess is that Liverpool were going to ask for the sun, the moon, the stars, and a few galaxies, knowing full well Barcelona had all that and more available. They never wanted to sell Coutinho, but if some ungodly sum of cash showed up on their doorstep, they weren't going to turn it down. So, they kept upping the asking price, wondering if Barcelona would keep adding more to the transfer offer. The €200 million figure probably didn't specifically exist, but Liverpool may have been holding out for a similar number.
