Needless to say, this was not the result the USMNT was hoping for. They were hoping to solidify their qualifying campaign with a vengeful win over Costa Rica, who don't play well om the road. But, instead, they put in one of the more lackluster performances of the year. It was their first loss under Bruce Arena 2.0 and their first of the 2017 calendar year.

The campaign isn't doomed by any means, but things aren't as rosy as they'd like. The USMNT is still in third place in the Hex with three matches remaining. They play the three weakest teams in the group to close out the campaign. Honduras and Trinidad may be on the road, but they are very winnable games.

Trinidad and Tobago 1-2 Honduras
(Jones PK 67')-(Lopez 7', Elis 16')

Mexico 1-0 Panama
(Lozano 53')

Mexico, meanwhile, is just about qualified. They are nine points clear of qualification and are assured of nothing less than the playoff match against Asia. A single point on Tuesday at Costa Rica will be enough to get them there for certain.

This shouldn't shock anybody, but UEFA has opened a financial fair play investigation against Paris Saint-Germain. The French giants have spent over €400 million on incoming transfers this summer with more than half of it spent on Neymar alone. The investigation will focus on whether or not the club will at least break even financially when all is said and done and won't conclude for about a year. This wouldn't be the first time PSG violated FFP rules. They were forced to play Champions League matches with 21 players in their squad and were capped at spending only €55 million on transfers back in 2014.

Wayne Rooney was pulled over early Friday morning and charged with drunk driving. He was released on bail and awaits a September 18 court date.
