Headlines
As the #SaveTheCrew movement rages on among fans, San Antonio is taking the fight to the courts, for entirely different reasons. Bexar County judge Nelson Wolff is asking his DA to investigate whether MLS violated any laws when they encouraged the county to by Toyota Field as part of a potential MLS expansion bid two years after Anthony Precourt snuck the relocation to Austin clause into his agreement to by Columbus Crew. A relocation to Austin would kill any hope of San Antonio landing a team, and Wolff feels the county should have been made aware of this possibility before buying the stadium.

Andres Iniesta will be out for Barcelona this afternoon when his club travels to Basque Country to face Athletic Bilbao thanks to a thigh. While this match faces a possibly sympathetic opposing fan base, Barcelona is likely not get get much love from the majority of Spain for the time being. Their close alignment with the Catalonian independence movement hasn't exactly endeared them to supporters of keeping a united country together.

The region faces a large degree of uncertainty after yesterday's declaration of independence and the Spanish government's swift denial of said declaration. Let's hope they all can find a peaceful resolution to this situation, however long it takes. The last thing this world needs is another civil war.

Barcelona, meanwhile, face just as much uncertainly. They don't know if La Liga will allow them to remain in their league if Catalonia independence wins out. As unimaginable as that may be, politics may get in the way and they may end up a giant club without a home. Not that such a fate will keep them from supporting their fans. Their "Mes que un club" motto has always aligned them with the Catalonian people, and they aren't going to back down from that now.

Headlines
Harry Kane will miss Tottenham's showdown at Manchester United tomorrow with a hamstring injury. The Premier League's leading goal scorer suffered the blow during Sunday's 4-1 thrashing of Liverpool. It's considered a minor injury, so he shouldn't miss too much time. The medical staff say they are holding him out this weekend for precautionary reasons more than anything.

We had the draw for the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup yesterday and we have been deprived of marquee matches. None of the remaining big clubs will face each other and the lone remaining non-Premier League club, Bristol City, hosts Manchester United. Here's the full draw.

Bristol City v. Manchester United
Leicester City v. Manchester City
Arsenal v. West Ham
Chelsea v. AFC Bournemouth

Canadian international striker Cyle Larin is leaving MLS for Europe. He didn't name a specific outfit, but he's been linked to several clubs in the past, including Everton, Celtic and Anderlecht. As much as Orlando City would like to keep him, they have said they will not get in his way if he wants to go overseas.

Headlines
Leicester City hired former Southampton manager Clause Puel to replace Craig Shakespeare yesterday. Puel was in charge last year for Saints when they made the EFL Cup Final and finished eighth in the Premier League, but he was sacked in June anyway. He has the task of bringing Leicester up from their current standing in 14th place.

One small step was made in the Save the Crew movement. Fans and media successfully pressured owner Anthony Precourt to offer refunds on 2018 season ticket deposits. He doesn't deserve praise for this. It's something he should have done right from the original announcement of potential relocation, or the he never should have had to do in the first place. Either way, knowing the level of shrewdness he's already displayed, he will probably use anyone asking for a refund as another excuse for the city's inability to support a club, thus giving his relocation efforts more ammo.

Headlines
U.S. Soccer has selected Dave Sarachan to lead the USMNT in their friendly agaisnt Portugal in two weeks. Sarachan was a long time assistant to Bruce Arena. Since most of Arena's staff are still on the payroll, the federation felt it made sense for one of them to step into the role, as opposed to Tab Ramos, who has spent his time with the U-20 team. They also mentioned that the search for a permanent head coach will not be a swift one and a strategy for selection is still being worked out. There's no real rush for one, either. The USA doesn't have a competitive match for about two years after their elimination from the World Cup.

LA Galaxy fired general manager Pete Venegas yesterday. The team missed out on the playoffs and came darn close to finishing with the worst record in MLS this year. Head coach Sigi Schmid will assume player personnel responsibilities for the future. Schmid was brought on to lead the struggling team at the end of July, but things were beyond repair. Now, he will have the winter to construct his side with the aim of returning to the playoffs next year.

As far as actual playoff teams are concerned, Sporting Kansas City got some bad news about their goalkeeper. Tim Melia will miss the knockout round match agaisnt Houston Dynamo thanks to the hamstring injury that's kept him out for the final three games of the regular season. The Dynamo will be without defender A.J. DeLaGarza, though, who tore his ACL in the season finale and will miss the entire playoffs.

Lionel Messi - Cristiano Ronaldo - Neymar

Andres Iniesta - Toni Kroos - Luka Modric

Marcelo - Sergio Ramos - Leonardo Bonucci - Dani Alves

Gianluigi Buffon

After tumbling down to ninth place in the Eastern Conference following back-to-back playoff appearances, Montreal Impact have fired head coach Mauro Biello. The Montreal native and former player had been part of the coaching staff since 2009. Word is the club had been preparing for a change since July and has already met with potential replacements from abroad.

It seems whenever a coaching vacancy opens up in the Premier League, people find ways to link former Manchester United star Ryan Giggs to the job. Giggs said he is interested in both the Leicester City and Everton openings right now. His only experience was as interim boss at Manchester United in 2014 after David Moyes was let go. He tried to land jobs at Swansea City and Southampton since then, but was passed over. Typical English candidates have also emerged for both positions, including Sam Allardyce for Everton and Alan Pardew for Leicester.

American international Timmy Chandler will be out for quite some time after tearing his meniscus during Eintracht Frankfurt's draw against Borussia Dortmund. The non contact injury happened late in the first half and will require surgery to fix.

Bill Hamid has officially signed for FC Midtjylland in Denmark after D.C. United's season ended. This was long his rumored destination after the news of his impending MLS departure broke. He reportedly turned down offers from Bundesliga clubs, who would have used him in a backup role. He will start in Denmark while hopefully facing some stiffer competition to increase his chances of landing a more consistent spot with the U.S. Men's National Team.

Headlines
Everton sacked Ronald Koeman after their crushing 5-2 loss at home to Arsenal. The Dutchman, who had success with Southampton before coming to Merseyside a year ago, was in charge for all of nine games this season. It's hard to say this wasn't deserved. Koeman had his team performing rather poorly to open the season. They are 18th place at the moment after only a pair of wins.

Yesterday witnessed the beginning of the #SaveTheCrew movement that's trying to stop Columbus Crew's relocation to Austin, Texas. While more than 2,000 fans gathered at Columbus city hall, supporters from across the country showed their support with tweets, scarves, and in stadium banners hoping to send a message to Don Garber, Anthony Precourt, and anyone else who will listen that the league is better as a whole with one of its original franchises staying put.

I hope it works, even though I know millionaires and billionaires in the sports industry rarely listen to the fans blow them. That's no reason not to fight, though. The plague of franchise relocations, owners begging for public money to build their sporting palaces, and the general anti-fan policies is spreading throughout sports, not just soccer. Fans taking a stand is long overdue, and it might as well start right here in the beautiful game.
