Bizarre scenes in this one as the political climate in Catalonia forced this match to be played in an empty stadium for public safety reasons. Police and prospective voters in the referendum for Catalan independence clashed throughout Barcelona and the entire region, leading to casualties on both sides. The club came to the decision rather late on, 25 minutes before kickoff, with thousands of fans waiting outside hoping to get in. They would have preferred the match be postponed, but La Liga refused to comply with that request. The closed door decree was a protest against that decision.
