After fawning over each other all summer long, Liverpool and Virgil Van Dijk are finally getting together. They announced a club record fee of £75 million is being sent to Southampton in exchange for the defender, the most ever paid for a back line player. He will officially join the club in the new year when the transfer window opens.

Head of the Russia 2018 organizing committee Vitaly Mutko stepped down from his post shortly after taking a temporary leave of absence from his post as head of the Russian Football Union. He was heavily linked with the state sponsored doping program that resulted in the country being banned from the Olympics. He himself has been banned as well. Alexei Sorokin will take his place as the final preparations for this summer's World Cup roll on.

Swansea City have their latest manager. They hired Carlos Carvalhal to replace the recently fired Paul Clement. Carvalhal comes over from Sheffield Wednesday, who canned him on Christmas Eve with the team in 15th place in the Championship. Before coming to England's second tier in 2015, he had stops at Besiktas, Sporting Lisbon, and Maritimo and was an assistant at Bayern Munich. He's their fifth manager in the last two years.

Orlando City SC acquired midfielder Jose Villarreal from LA Galaxy fir a third round pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. They also signed Libyan fullback Mohamed El-Munir from Partizan Belgrade in Serbia. Villarreal has been a part time player with the Galaxy since 2012. He has five goals and nine assists in 68 appearances in his career. El-Munir has seven appearances for the defending Serbian champions this year and was once part of Dinamo Minsk when they won the Belarusian Premier League in 2015.
